The Mysterious Vanishing

of the Foremar Family

The very last August Chills story for 2021 is a magically dark song by ASP, it was a dream come true to build it, and even more - to have ASP allow me to use it in the video!

This song is from the album Fremd, ASP recently added the whole album (with lyrics!) to their YouTube channel here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oQDLCA53Yrs

I wanted to build the Foremar mansion from the first time I heard this song, and honestly I’d love to build a full miniature of it one day, but for this project I chose to make a mini version inside a box altered to look like a book, and here’s the inside…

Building into a box meant that I had a very specific (and quite small) amount of space, and maybe because of that my plan sketches went towards the surreal, with floors beginning and ending and sliding into one another. It was a lot easier to sketch in 2D than to build in 3D, that’s for sure 😂

Some rooms are mentioned in the song: the great hall, the pantry, the cellar. The others I wanted to add: a parlor for the Foremars to have boring debates in, a hallway that goes deep into the house and of course - every mansion needs an attic and a lot of stairs for monsters to peek from under.

There are a LOT of details in this project, and I’ll post more of them later, but let’s start with these:

The parlor is easily the most detailed room, which makes sense since it would have been used more when the owners of the house were still around.

I shared how I made the tiny fireplace in a video on Instagram and Facebook. It’s following a pattern by Bentley House Minis (her video’s here) that I shrunk to fit. The deer head started as a toy, I spared the beheading from the video, but it might pop up someplace later on…

Not all the details I added are from the song, some are just for those who follow ASP, like the portraits in the parlor or the black butterfly fluttering in the attic

Right beside the great hall with it’s painted ceiling and grand staircase, is a small pantry.

I had so much fun crackling up everything in site in this tiny room: walls, cabinets, shelves… It was done with a combination of paint, stamps and pastes and I really love the dilapidated results. I added a few jars, long forgotten on the shelves, the presence of a few items makes the space feels even more empty somehow, don’t you think?

Of course, this pantry holds a much darker secret that cracked wood and forgotten jars, the door in the floor opens to a tiny cellar with a sad view…

The door opens to reveal the remains of the cousin, he was left and forgotten by his family, I couldn’t to that to him! It felt a bit ridiculous sawing his cloths though ;)

I had a teeny-tiny skull meant for tabletop minis, and I matched it with wire, paint and (unfortunately for the cousin) a bit chain. A small seed bead worked as a manacle and the poor guy was doomed to stay put.

I had so much fun making this project, it was fairly complicated, with its odd angles (it took me three tries to get the stairs right) and tiny details (from cracks to shackles), but it definitely feels like it was worth the effort. It was a labor of love from beginning to end, I hope you love the results ;)
