Līmus dissimulāns
Disguise slime
(chameleon ooze, brain puddle)
X
Equivalent of about 3L liquid
Saprotrophic; Absorbs nutrients from dead matter
or directly from the soil.
Damp environment, often forest floor; have been
known to appear in cities.
Very difficult to discern at first glance, but often their edges are the easiest to recognize (e.g., a puddle that protrudes above ground).
Tend to run very warm, can reach near boiling temperature while digesting. There is no physical change, but the temperature is a simple way to identify their presence.
If known/suspected to be nearby, take extra care with your steps. Stepping onto a Līmus dissimulāns won’t harm them, but it can result in burns.
Also, it's just rude.
Līmus dissimulāns are translucent ooze-like magions, with the ability to camouflage themselves by changing colour to fit their surroundings. The changes can take minute details, creating an illusion of texture, but the physical form does not change. When not using their camouflage colouring ability, they appear similar to diluted jelly or mucus, though they are not sticky. Līmus dissimulāns do not control their form like polymorphidae, they will take the form of a container or hollow in the ground, and if uncontained, will appear as a thick ooze puddle, flat and with raised, rounded edges.
When feeding, Līmus dissimulāns can seem to sink a little into the ground. They absorb nutrients from the ground, often choosing areas with dead organic matter (often leaves, but they have been observed over animal remains as well). The feeding and digestion process causes a raise in their body temperature and can reach close to 100 Celsius.
Līmus dissimulāns are sentient, and have shown ability to recognize and react to gestures, but their intelligence level is unclear.
